Bristol charity St Peter’s Hospice has divided its popular Midnight Walk to encourage more ladies to take part.
As well as the annual ten-mile route around some of Bristol’s iconic landmarks the charity will offer a shorter five-mile circuit this summer.
The walks, taking place on 7 July 2012, are aimed at encouraging women to support the charity on a fun, night time walk around the city.
Organisers are hoping the walk will attract 2,000 women – and have added the five-mile option for those who want to support the charity but fancy a shorter distance.
Head of fundraising Jo Gibbons said: “The Midnight Walk has become one of the most important fundraising dates in our calendar and we are determined to make this year’s event as inclusive as possible.”
Starting at 10.30pm from Bristol City Football Club at Ashton Gate the walks will follow a well-marshalled route around the city taking in the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Brandon Hill and the ss Great Britain. Both walks will be finishing at the football club.
Jo Gibbons said: “The first two Midnight Walks were a tremendous success and the famous pink T-shirt has become something of a symbol of our big-hearted city’s enthusiasm.
“Although you don’t have to be super fit to tackle the ten-mile course we thought the distance involved might be putting some ladies off joining in this fabulous and rewarding event. The five-mile option will hopefully see more ladies join us and raise even more money. And most importantly it’s a really fun night out!”
Bristol’s only adult hospice cared for 2,200 patients last year and supported more than 6,000 family members, including children.
Jo Gibbons said: “With the hospice receiving less than a quarter of the £6.5 million it needs to run its services from the NHS, it is important to get as many people signed up as possible so that it can continue its work caring for people with incurable illnesses.”
Registration is £12 with walkers receiving an event pack, which includes a T-shirt.
The charity is also on the lookout for men and women to volunteer as marshals on the night.
