Sherlock Holmes items to be displayed in Edinburgh

A collection of items that belonged to the doctor who inspired the character of Sherlock Holmes is planned to go on display in Edinburgh.

Dr Joseph Bell's family have donated the items to Edinburgh's Royal College of Surgeons, where they are planned to be exhibited in the New Year.

A letter in the display, confirms that Bell was the inspiration for the legendary Sherlock Holmes, in it Conan Doyle says:

"It is most certainly to you that I owe Sherlock Holmes."

The two met whilst studying medicine in Edinburgh in the 1870s.
