Prank callers spark West Yorkshire Police campaign

Police in West Yorkshire are urging the public to stop wasting important police time with prank calls.

As part of the campaign to urge people to use the new 101 non-emergency number, police are also asking for an end to time-wasters phoning the emergency services.

Last month alone West Yorkshire police received several disingenuous calls including:

A man who called police to report a fight between Stacey Slater and Archie Mitchell, two Eastenders characters, the fight occurred in the 2009 Christmas Day episode of the soap.

They have also revealed that a woman asked operators to pass her phone number to film star Mark Wahlberg, and many others rang the emergency number asking for the time, singing to operators or playing music down the line.
