Last night (10 April 2012) Robbie Williams announced on his official website that his Take That band mate Mark Owen would be joining this year’s Soccer Aid line up.
He said “The best football player that TT produced has agreed to play for England at Soccer Aid. It just gets better and better. Nice one Marko. See you on the training pitch in May.”
The charity event returns for the forth time on Sunday 27 May at Old Trafford in Manchester. The format remains the same with Robbie Williams captaining and England side against actor Michael Sheen’s Rest of the World team. Both teams will be a mix of celebrities and professional footballers.
The event, which has never lacked passion in the past, sees the return of many familiar faces and some new names to top the bill. Robbie Williams has managed to rope in some big names for the event that will support UNICEF. These include Jason Isaacs, John Bishop Gordon Ramsey, Olly Murs and Aston Merrygold from JLS. More surprising amongst the names are Hollywood actors Will Ferrell and Gerard Butler.
They will be joined by footballers David Seaman, Jamie Rednapp, Teddy Sherringham, Kenny Daglish, Jaap Stam, Ruud Van Nistlerooy and Edwin Van Der Sar.
The event will be shown live on ITV 1 and the Soccer Aid Website promises that more big names may yet be announced.
