Platt Fields Park attack victim named as Manchester student

A young man who currently fighting for his life after he was found in a ditch in Platt Fields Park, Manchester, has been named by police.

The victim of the attack which happened at some point in the early hours of Tuesday morning, is 19-year-old Manchester University student, Daniel Whiteley.

Daniel Whiteley remained unidentified for 36 hours, until a set of keys found further down the culvert allowed police to establish who he was. His family who live in Bradford have now been informed.

He has suffered a serious assault which has left him with severe head injuries and injuries to his arms and abdomen, and remains in a critical condition.

The police investigation continues to establish the circumstances of the attack and to find those responsible.
