Bahrain authorities detained US and Bahraini human rights activists

Human Rights activist and member of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights Said Yousif was arrested Sunday and detained for several hours along with American Human Rights Watch Washington Director Tom Malinowski, Nadim Houry deputy director of HRW's Middle East and North Africa division, and 20 other civilians. Said Yousif and members of HRW were observing a protest in Diraz village when they were arrested, EA Worldview explains.

The protest they were monitoring was dispersed by police forces with tear gas, sound grenades and pepper spray. Several demonstrators were also beaten by security forces. They protested against Ecclestone's decision to go ahead with the F1 Grand Prix.

Nadim Houry ‏tweeted after he was released:

@nadimhoury Out of our very short detention in #Bahrain. Treated well. Thank you to all those concerned. We came to monitor events, not to be the story
