Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani, a Shi'ite cleric from Qom, a city in Iran, has issued a Fatwa (religious edict) calling for the execution of a Germany-based Iranian rapper, several media have reported.
Rap artist Shahin Najafi has been condemned for apostasy after he released a Persian song called “Naqi”deemed offensive to Imam Naqi, the tenth Imam in Shi’ite Islam.
Apostasy is punishable by death in Iran.
A pro-regime News Wesbsite called “Asr Emrous” launched an online campaign calling on all Shi’ites and Muslims to find the rapper and kill him.
The 31-year-old moved to Germany after he was banned by Iranian authorities from performing in the country. There he joined a band called “Tapesh 2012” which performs politically motivated songs.
The rapper has said that he did not intend to insult the Shi'ite Imam. According to the blog EA worldview, the Cologne Police have said they will protect Najafi.
